Anybody Can Memorize
Here are a few tips that you can use to memorize Bible verses better.
- Break the verse into sections and memorize one section at a time:
Example: "For whoever keeps the whole law // and yet stumbles in one point //
he has become guilty of all." // James 2:10
- When memorizing a reference, try to relate the chapter and verse to
something you can remember.
Example: James 2:10 (the above verse), 2 is twice as many points as
you can stumble in and 10 represents the 10 commandments (the law).
- After you learn the verse, repeat it before every meal right after you pray.
- Print the verse on an index card and put it in a prominent place -
mirror, TV screen, etc. Whenever you see it, practice it!
- Write a check on the index card every time you say the verse right.
Make sure you have 10 checks before reciting in Awana.
- Before you go to bed, review the verse.
- Make up a simple song using the verse as the words.
- When you're in the car on the way to an activity, take your book with
you and work on your verses.
- Have one of your friends from AWANAs listen to you as you recite
the verse. Then switch and listen to them.
- Go on a memory verse walk with your parents. Write several verses on
index cards and work on the verses as you get exercise!
